Poppy Chow - SRC
I was all excited for this month's Secret Recipe Club. I had been assigned to Raina's blog, Connor's Cooking and, having looked through the recipes there, knew exactly what I was going to make for my post - the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Bread. Then, my oven went kaput. No baking for me. Well, onto Plan B.
Lucky for me, there are a lot of other delicious recipes on her blog that do not require an oven. And, that includes sweet treats, my favorite. I finally decided on making her Poppy Chow - popcorn covered in chocolate, peanut butter, and then coated in powdered sugar. I had never even had Puppy Chow before, so I was curious to see how I would like it. Besides, I needed a treat to take to an activity and this seemed like a real winner.
The Poppy Chow is so simple to make. Everything gets melted down together and then all you have to do is pour it over the popcorn, stir, and dust with powdered sugar. Easy peasy. When it was done, I took one bite. My first thought was that it didn't totally wow me. But, strangely enough, one bite turned into two, which turned into four, which turned into . . . well, I won't tell you how many bites I took after the fourth. Let's just say that I'm glad I'll have someone to share the batch with because this stuff is dangerously delicious. I can't be trusted with a whole panful of this stuff in my house because I will end up eating it all in record time.
Poppy Chow (from Connor's Cooking)
9 c. air-popped popcorn
1 c. semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 c. peanut butter (I used half creamy and half chunky)
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
In microwave or double boiler, melt the chocolate, peanut butter, and butter until melted. Stir in the vanilla. Place the popped popcorn in a large bowl and pour the chocolate mixture over the popcorn. Stir gently until evenly coated. Add the powdered sugar and stir until each piece is covered. Spread out on cookie sheet to set chocolate. Store in an airtight container.
Note: I'd highly recommend using all chunky peanut butter in this. The little bits of peanuts are simply irresistible. In fact, adding peanuts to this would probably be a really good idea.
Holy cow that looks good. Chocolate and PB is a marriage made in heaven as far as I am concerned.
ReplyDeleteI think I gained a few pounds just looking at your pictures. :)

ReplyDeleteHi Lisa, Sorry that it's taken me so long to visit and comment but I had major computer issues yesterday and it's just now that I'm back online. We adored your broiled sushi and my husband has asked for it a few times already and considering that he ate almost all of the first batch, that's saying a lot that he wants more. I'm looking forward to making some of your other recipes too.
ReplyDeleteYour poppy chow looks yummy and I know that I need to avoid making this as I'll be the one eating the entire batch. I'm so happy that I was assigned your blog this past month.
what a wonderful twist to the puppy chow! I've been giving puppy chow as gifts for years but this year I will shake things up and do the poppy chow!
